Hi, I'm Nick Walker.
I design and build software in Queensland, Australia. Most of it is data tooling. The rest is games, puzzles and tools for learning, some of them built with my son.
What I do
Work
At DataCrafter Software Labs I build DataCrafter, a data engineering platform: workflows, data models and reports over many data sources at once.
For fun
Games and learning tools: a territory game, two chess trainers, a Rubik's Cube solver, a PDF editor and a small C compiler.
Open source
Everything except DataCrafter is open source under the MIT licence. Fork it, build it, change it. The Windows installers are signed in my name.
Projects
Conquest opens the game. The others open a page with screenshots.
-
Conquest
A turn-based territory game for the iPad and the web. Three hand-drawn maps, eight computer opponents, and it plays with the network off.
-
DataCrafter
A data workbench that loads, models, aggregates and reports on data as one repeatable run. Desktop, web and Excel clients.
-
Tabiya
A trainer for chess openings. Study each line, drill it from memory, then play it against an engine.
-
Tabiya Player
A no-frills chess game against Stockfish, with a review afterwards that names every slip.
-
Cuber
A Rubik's Cube solver that teaches as it solves. Paint your cube, press Solve, and follow the moves.
-
PDFluffer
A PDF reader and editor with no ads, no account and no nag screens. Fill forms, sign, and fix up scans.
-
jcc
A small C compiler written in Java. It turns a subset of C into programs that run on Windows and Linux.
